Abstract

In this paper, we develop a mathematical model for retrieving thepositions and the rates of the emission of the pollutant sources. We begin by mea-suring the pollutant concentrations and then we apply particle swarm optimization(PSO) minimizing the differences between the theoretical and the measured con-centration. The results show that the mathematical model is capable to retrievethe positions and the rates of the emissions of the pollutant sources. We alsodesign the placement of pollutant sensors for the pollutant detecting system tobe able to retrieve the positions and the emission rates of the pollutant sourceseffectively.
